curl -fsSL https://example.com/bootstrap | sudo bash -s -- --force

linux · bash · Expert

Executes a remote script as root and passes it arguments. Compared with the plain pipe-to-shell pattern this is worse in two ways: it runs elevated, and -s -- forwards flags to a script nobody has read.

Signals to notice

  • Remote content executed as root
  • Never inspected before running
  • Arguments forwarded to unreviewed code
